The inscription found on the mausoleum states it was erected by Sir Augustus Frederick d'Este for his mother, Lady Augusta Murray (1768-1830), the second daughter of the 4th Earl of Dunmore, who lived at Mount Albion House in Ramsgate. Sir Augustus and his sister Augusta Emma, Lady Truro, are both interred in the mausoleum.
