Four new vinyl reissues offer a thrilling survey of his journey as a pop songwriter. The series comprises the band’s 1984 debut Swoon, 1988’s commercial peak From Langley Park to Memphis, 1990’s double album Jordan: The Comeback, and 1992’s The Best of Prefab Sprout: A Life of Surprises.
26 de mar. de 2020 · Released in the middle of their 1980s’ peak, Langley Park is a key Prefab Sprout album, but it’s not quite the towering achievement that it could have been. Protest Songs, 1989 Protest Songs was originally scheduled as a followup to Steve McQueen – it was announced for December 1985, but wasn’t in stores until 1989.
This collection gives generously of Steve McQueen (7), From Langley Park to Memphis…(5), Swoon (6) and his somewhat diminished later efforts. I say diminishing returns as I never fully loved his later releases as they carved too closely to the genre of the dreaded ‘Musical’.
