Arthur Stewart, Duke of Rothesay was the second son born to James IV, King of Scotland and Queen Margaret Tudor. He was expected to be King Arthur one day as his older brother had died but he also didn't survive infancy.
James was the third son of King James IV and his wife Margaret Tudor, the eldest daughter of Henry VII of England, and was the only legitimate child of James IV to survive infancy. He was born on 10 April 1512 at Linlithgow Palace and baptised the following day, [1] receiving the title Duke of Rothesay . [2]
From the moment of his birth James was Duke of Rothesay and heir apparent to the Scottish throne. 14 de mar. de 2024 · Margaret then resumed the position of regent, alongside Albany, from 1517. The duke ultimately returned to France in 1524, leaving Margaret as regent for the remainder of James V’s minority. Visitors to Stirling today can stand in the same spot that, 500 years ago, Margaret Tudor refused entry to some of the most important nobles in Scotland.
