Nélida. Nélida is a novel by Marie d'Agoult, a "thinly disguised fictional account" of her affair with composer Franz Liszt that lasted from about 1834 to 1844, and a succès de scandale when first published in 1846. Marie later wrote several more novels as well as a distinguished history of the French Revolution of 1848 .
Talented and resolutely independent, Marie d'Agoult (1805-1876) was one of the most remarkable women of her time. Abandoning her privileged position in society, she eloped with her great love, the pianist and composer Franz Liszt, and later won fame as a writer under the penname Daniel Stern.

Ses mémoires, qui couvrent la période 1833-1854, ont été publiées en 1927. Martine Reid, dans la collection « Femmes de lettres » en Folio a réédité une partie de « Mes souvenirs » en 2009.
La joven Marie pasó sus primeros años en Alemania y completó su educación en un convento francés después de la Restauración borbónica. El 16 de mayo de 1827 contrajo matrimonio de conveniencia con Charles Louis Constant d'Agoult, conde de d'Agoult (1790–1875), convirtiéndose así en la condesa de d'Agoult.
