14 de oct. de 2023 · John William Godward was a protégé of Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema, who was an archaeologist as well as an artist, and spent much of his time visiting the Greek and Roman sites on which he based much of his work. Although Godward was Tadema’s pupil, he also followed closely in the stylistic footsteps of Frederic Leighton.

John William Godward. (9 August 1861 - 13 December 1922) John William Godward (9 August 1861 - 13 December 1922) was an English painter from the end of the Pre-Raphaelite / Neo-Classicist era. He was a protege of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema but his style of painting fell out of favour with the arrival of painters like Picasso.
John William Godward. Reclining on a tiger skin draped over a marble ledge, a young woman, Repose, is disturbed from slumber by her companion, Mischief, who pesters her with a dress pin. They wear diaphanous robes fashioned after chitons worn by women in ancient Greece. Another dress pin and a hair ribbon lie scattered on the marble floor.
