  2. Children of Time is fantastic, one of the more unique books I've read in the last decade. Gideon the Ninth is more like fantasy in space, and it felt like a slog until the last 20% of the book, where everything snaps together and the payoff is fantastic. Ninefox gambit is also kind of fantasy in space, and I thought it was great.
