eddie daniels, who in the early days of his jazz career as a tenor saxist for the famous thad jones-mel lewis orchestra, has become today’s greatest clarinet player. WHILE HIS FIRST FEW SOLO ALBUMS MIXED TENOR SAX, CLARINET AND FLUTE, HE GRABBED EVERYONE’S ATTENTION WHEN HE THREW HIS ENTIRE WEIGHT INTO THE CLARINET IN 1986 WITH HIS MIX OF CLASSICAL AND JAZZ ON BREAKTHROUGH.
Eddie continued his diverse recording pattern with his two subsequent albums, Blackwood and Nepenthe. On his next album, This Is Now, Eddie returned to straight ahead jazz fronting a burning jazz trio led by Billy Childs. The 12 tracks are a mix of jazz standards from composers like Bill Evans, Thad Jones, and Duke Ellington, plus original tunes, four from Daniels and three from pianist Billy Childs.
