Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey, KG (1516/1517– 19 January 1547), was an English aristocrat, and one of the founders of English Renaissance poetry. He was a first cousin of both Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, the second and fifth wives of King Henry VIII.
Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey. Surrey was a courtier, soldier and poet at the court of Henry VIII. He was at one time suggested as a husband for Princess Mary (later Mary I). He introduced blank verse into England, and was responsible, along with Sir Thomas Wyatt, for bringing the sonnet form to this country from Italy.
Henry Howard was an English nobleman, politician, and poet who was born around 1517. He’s considered one of the founders of English Renaissance poetry, and his work is often connected to Sir Thomas Wyatt’s. He was famously executed by Henry VIII in 1547.
