I am delighted to let you know that, following a thorough recruitment process, Governing Council has appointed Ms Rachel Bailey as the next Head of Benenden. She will take up her position from September 2024.

  4. Benenden School is an independent day and boarding school for girls, founded in 1923 and situated in 250 acres of beautiful parkland in rural Kent. At present, there are 560 girls in the School. A considerable amount of new building has been completed in recent years, including an All-Weather Pitch, Staff Housing and a new School Hall and Music School.

  5. The recent Opera Takeover workshops – facilitated by the partnership between Benenden School and the English National Opera – culminated in a delightful concert this week. Alongside performances by the ENO, students from local schools joined the Benenden Lower School Choir to showcase everything they'd learned about singing and performing opera for their parents.

  6. The site on which the School stands is of great historical interest as both the parkland and woodland are mentioned in the Domesday Book: “Robert of Romney also holds Benenden [Benendine] from the Bishop of Bayeux”. Benenden had become sufficiently permanent by 1086 to have both a name and a church. Benenden became a Charitable Foundation.
