29 de ene. de 2024 · Lo cierto es que fue hasta 1963 que el productor Bob Thiele se acercó a Johnny Hartman –de quien el año que acaba de irse se cumplieron un siglo de su nacimiento (vio la primera luz el 3 de julio de 1923) y cuarenta años de su desaparición física (falleció el 15 de septiembre de 1983)– con la petición explícita de Coltrane para que grabara con él.
Hartman fue un barítono intimista que atemperó la escuela del gran Billy Eckstine dedicándose por completo a la balada. Igualmente, Johnny Hartman figura como una de las grandes luminarias del jazz vocal y en el tramo final de su vida grabó con músicos que supieron captar la calidad de su talento interpretativo y, sensibilizados por su voz, le devolvieron sus virtudes.
