On 14 March 1793, the Princesses of Mecklenburg-Strelitz "coincidentally" met the Prussian King Frederick William II at the Prussian Theatre in Frankfurt-am-Main.
Friederike was christened on March 15, 1778, and given the names Friederike Caroline Sophie Alexandrine. She had nine siblings: Duchess Charlotte (1769 – 1818) – married Friedrich, Duke of Saxe-Altenburg, had issue. Duchess Caroline (1771 – 1773) – died in childhood. Duke Georg Carl (1772 – 1773) – died in childhood.
