Sir Ralph de Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland was born circa 1364 in Raby Castle, County Durham, England. He was the son of Sir John de Neville, 3rd Baron Neville and Maud de Percy. He married by contract, firstly, Lady Margaret de Stafford, daughter of Hugh de Stafford, 2nd Earl of Stafford and Philippa Beauchamp, before 1370.
Westmorland's eldest son died in 1498. Westmorland died at Hornby Castle, Yorkshire, the seat of his son-in-law, Sir William Conyers, on 6 February 1499, allegedly of grief for his son's death, and was buried in the parish church there. His grandson, Ralph Neville, succeeded to the earldom as 4th Earl of Westmorland. Marriage and issue

Henry Neville, 5th Earl of Westmorland (1525–Aug 1563) was an English peer, member of the House of Lords and Knight of the Garter. Life [ edit ] He was born in 1525, the eldest son of Ralph Neville, 4th Earl of Westmorland and his wife, Katherine Stafford.
After Lord Neville's death his widow married Thomas Darcy (afterwards Lord Darcy). Her daughter by Lord Darcy married Sir Marmaduke Constable of Flamborough, Yorkshire. He succeeded to the title of 4th Lord Neville [E., 1459]; 4th Earl of Westmorland [E., 1397]; 7th Lord Neville of Raby [E., 1295] on 6 Feb 1498/99.

Like so many other marriages of the period there was a degree of consanguinity to be taken into consideration. The couple’s eldest son John made a glittering marriage to Elizabeth Holland the daughter of Thomas Holland 2 nd Earl of Kent in 1394.
