Born in Brinkley, Arkansas, in 1908, saxophonist, singer, bandleader, and composer Louis Jordan remains one of the most influential progenitors in American popular music. As a teen he learned clarinet and saxophone from his father, who featured him in his Rabbit Foot Minstrels.
Louis Jordan (July 8, 1908, Brinkley, Arkansas – February 4, 1975, Los Angeles, California) was an American jazz, blues and rhythm & blues musician, songwriter and bandleader. He was most successful in the 1940s in the black music market but he reached also white audiences and recorded several cross over hits in the Pop charts.
Louis Jordan was a pioneering musician whose contributions to jazz, blues, and rhythm and blues helped shape the sound of popular music in the 20th century. Jordan was a saxophonist, singer, and bandleader who blended jazz and swing with blues and gospel influences, creating a style that became known as “jump blues.”

1 de jul. de 2021 · Louis Jordan murió de neumonía en Los Ángeles el 4 de febrero de 1975, sin embargo, años después, muchos grupos revivieron su material, de hecho, su música volvió a las listas de éxitos a mediados de 1981 cuando el vocalista Joe Jackson hizo una versión de varias de las composiciones de Jordan en un álbum titulado, Jumpin’ Jive.
