Interestingly, Sergeant York’s chain of command and, most recently, this author aren’t the only ones who viewed the scope of Sergeant York’s feat with some degree of skepticism. In 1928 a Swedish journal published an article on York’s exploits.
Later on, while serving with the AEF in the Argonne Forest, Sergeant York sees several of his buddies, including his Bronxite best pal Pusher Ross (George Tobias), killed in an enemy ambush. His anger aroused, York personally kills 25 German soldiers, then single-handedly captures 132 prisoners.

His actions were considered responsible for allowing the 328th Infantry to continue their attack on the Decauville railroad—which would eventually result in Allied forces breaking the rail line upon which German troops depended.
