14 de nov. de 2023 · The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation presents Wendell Brunious in concert on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the George and Joyce Wein Jazz & Heritage Center (1225 N. Rampart Street). Doors open at 7pm and the concert begins promptly at 8pm.
Wendell Brunious is an American jazz trumpeter and bandleader. Born on October 27, 1954, Brunious was born into a Louisiana Creole family, the son of Nazimova "Chinee" Santiago and John "Picket" Brunious, Sr., a trumpeter who studied at Juilliard and played with the Onward Brass Band, Young Tuxedo Brass Band, and Paul Barbarin, and who arranged for Billy Eckstine and Cab Calloway.

Trumpeter and vocalist Wendell Brunious boasts a towering musical family tree primarily flowered with trumpets. He is the son of trumpet master John “Picket” (or “Picky”) Brunious Sr. and Nazimova “Chinee” Santiago, the niece of guitarist/banjoist Willie Santiago.
Wendell Brunious: I grew up in a close-knit Creole community in the 7th Ward. Our house was filled with music. I come from two of the most important families in the early development of jazz, particularly New Orleans jazz: the Brunious family and the Santiago family. My dad, John Brunious, was a great trumpet player.

Born into an impressive musical lineage—his late father was the legendary trumpeter and arranger John “Picket” Brunious, Sr.—Wendell began learning the trumpet at seven, and at nine, already had a recording to his name.
