  2. Henry Howard, 1st Earl of Northampton, was a courtier known for his learning, artistic culture and public charities. He was involved in the murder of Sir Thomas Overbury. Born on February 25, 1540, he was a younger brother of the 4th Duke of Norfolk, and uncle of Earl of Arundel. He studied with Bishop John White and was sympathetic towards Roman Catholicism. He died on June 15, 1614, aged 74.
