Samson Yakovlevich Makintsev (Russian: Самсо́н Я́ковлевич Маки́нцев), more commonly known as Samson Khan (Persian: سامسونخان ); (1849 – 1776), was a general of Russian origin in the service of Qajar Persia.
The article is devoted to the biography of an extraordinary Russian Samson Y. Makintsev, who deserted to Iranian side before well-known Russian-Iranian wars of 232 1804–1813 and 1826–1828 and, having served in the Iranian army for 51 years, rose to the rank of a general.
In the early 19th century, ʿAbbās Mirzā formed the Russian Battalion called Bahādorān from Russian deserters, mainly from the Russian army in Georgia, under the command of a Samson Yakovlevich Makintsev, who became known as Samson Khan (Andreeva, 2007, p. 60).
It was rebuilt in 1840 by Samson Makintsev (Sam Khan; member of Bogatyr Battalion) in brick on the older church foundation. Eleven years since its founding, the world’s largest photography competition attracted over 230,000 stunning submissions from amateur and professional photographers alike for its 2020 edition.
The Church of Saint John is a 5th- or 6th-century Armenian Catholic church in Iran. It was rebuilt in 1840 by Samson Makintsev in brick on the older church foundation. It was added to the Iran National Heritage List in 1968.
