I can only conclude that I’m having a phase of unfortunate young women on the History Jar at the moment – and have made a mental note to be more grateful that I was born when and where I was! Amy was the daughter of Sir John Robsart of Stanfield Hall near Wymondham in Norfolk.

  5. AMY ROBSART, LADY DUDLEY. BORN: 1532. DIED: 8 SEPTEMBER 1560. First wife of Robert Dudley. Probably more famous for her death than her life, she was found at the foot of the stairs at Cumnor Hall. Complications of breast cancer were probably the cause.

On 8 September 1650 Amy Dudley (née Robsart) was found dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs at Cumnor Place (sometimes referred to as Cumnor Hall).
