Edoardo Amaldi (Carpaneto Piacentino, 1908 - Roma, 1989) nasce in provincia di Piacenza da Ugo, un noto matematico, e da Laura Basini. Studia a Roma, dove si laurea in Fisica con Enrico Fermi nel 1931. L’anno successivo sposa Ginestra Giovene. La carriera scientifica si svolge tutta a Roma.

Edoardo Amaldi si era dedicato anche alla stesura di opere di Storia della Fisica, di resoconti storici di eventi di cui spesso fu testimone ed attore. Questo impegno iniziò nel 1966 con una biografia di Ettore Majorana (scienziato scomparso nel 1938) e continuò con quelle di Enrico Persico, di Ettore Pancini, di Bruno Touschek, di Emilio Segrè.
