Jöns Jacob von Berzelius nació en Suecia en el año de 1779 en la ciudad de Väfversunda, una pequeña aldea del distrito de Linköping, capital de la provincia de Östergötland, y falleció en Estocolmo en 1848. Berzelius estudió medicina en la Universidad de Uppsala y fue químico de profesión.

In 1785 his mother Anna Christina married the priest Anders Ekmarck from Norrköping, to whom Berzelius attested in his autobiography an exemplary character and who awakened in him the love for nature (botany).
