Paul Gauguin, né le 7 juin 1848 à Paris et mort le 8 mai 1903 à Atuona aux îles Marquises, est un peintre postimpressionniste français.. Chef de file de l'École de Pont-Aven et inspirateur des nabis, il est considéré comme l'un des peintres français majeurs du XIX e siècle, et l'un des plus importants précurseurs de l'art moderne avec Klimt, Cézanne, Munch, Seurat et van Gogh.

Clovis, un républicain convaincu, fut obligé de quitter la France lorsque l'empereur Napoléon III prit le pouvoir en 1849.

Paul Gauguin. Biografía y Obra. A Gauguin (1848-1903) lo encontramos dentro de los pintores franceses post-impresionistas junto con Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec y Cézanne. Nació en parís, a los tres años sus padres emigran a Perú y durante el viaje muere su padre. Allí vivió junto a su madre cuatro años hasta que deciden regresar a Francia.
