Palatinate-Simmern and Zweibrücken (German: Pfalz-Simmern-Zweibrücken) was a state of the Holy Roman Empire based in the Simmern and Zweibrücken in modern Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Palatinate-Simmern and Zweibrücken was created in 1410 out of the partition of the Palatinate after the death of King Rupert III for his son Stephen .
He was the son of Count Palatine Stephen of Simmer-Zweibrücken and his wife, Anna of Veldenz. He studied in Rome and Bologna. In 1458, he became Bishop of Münster . After the death of Archbishop Frederick III of Magdeburg on 11 November 1464, the cathedral chapter unanimously elected John as his successor on 13 December 1464.
