Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria. Maximilian I (17 April 1573 – 27 September 1651), occasionally called the Great, a member of the House of Wittelsbach, ruled as Duke of Bavaria from 1597. His reign was marked by the Thirty Years' War during which he obtained the title of a Prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire at the 1623 Diet of Regensburg .

Luitpold Karl Joseph Wilhelm Ludwig, Prince Regent of Bavaria (12 March 1821 – 12 December 1912), was the de facto ruler of Bavaria from 1886 to 1912, as regent for his nephews, King Ludwig II and King Otto. His regency arose due to his nephews' mental incapacity.
Ludwig was a Grand Prior of the Bavarian Order of Saint George, a Knight of the Order of Saint Hubert, and from 1960 a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece . Ludwig died of pneumonia at Schloss Leutstetten, 17 October 2008, at the age of 95. [1] On Wednesday, 22 October at 10:00 a.m., a Funeral Liturgy was held in the abbey church at Andechs.
His older sister, Louise d'Orléans, married Prince Alfons of Bavaria. [3] His paternal grandparents were Prince Louis, Duke of Nemours (son of Queen Maria and King Louis Philippe , who was forced to abdicate after the outbreak of the French Revolution of 1848 ) [4] and Princess Victoria of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (a first cousin of Queen Victoria ). [5]
Prince Otto was born on 27 April 1848, two months premature, in the Munich Residenz. His parents were King Maximilian II of Bavaria and Marie of Prussia.
