Professional players really took notice when, at the 1978 US Open, 16-year-old Baltimore native Pam Shriver shocked the tennis world by using a Prince racket to beat top-seeded Martina Navratilova and then coming a close second to Chris Evert in the finals.

The great Arthur Ashe helped the brand more recognition in the world of tennis when he played with the silver-coloured “Arthur Ashe Competition” racket. In 1975, he won the title at Wimbledon with a HEAD “Arthur Ashe Competition 2” in his hands.
When I discovered a Yonex R-7 and a Head Arthur Ashe Competition 3 in the local recycle center, I thought I found myself a couple of cheap sticks to practice stringing. They are like old acquaintances. In 80's I tried out a friend's Yonex with the similar rectangular looking head.
