It’s when we arrive at the start of the Gothic lit tradition that defining anything begins to feel a bit unclear. The pulp novelization of these horrors became popularized, and there is a noticeable transition from the Gothic tradition into modern horror fiction that we start to see in North America circa the 19th century.
