El 26 de enero de 2018, tiene lugar en el Teatro Real el estreno en España de Dead Man Walking, primera ópera del compositor Jake Heggie, basada en el libro homónimo de la hermana Helen Prejean, llevada al cine como Pena de muerte por Tim Robbins con Sean Penn y Susan Sarandon, ganadora del Óscar a Mejor Actriz.
