Hon. Charles John Bentinck (1708–1779) ⚭ 1738 Lady Margaret Cadogan, Tochter des William Cadogan, 1. Earl Cadogan. Sein Sohn aus erster Ehe, Henry, beerbte ihn 1709 als 2. Earl of Portland und wurde 1716 zum Duke of Portland erhoben. Sein ältester Sohn aus zweiter Ehe, Wilhelm, wurde 1732 zum deutschen Reichsgrafen erhoben.
Earl of Portland aus dessen erster Ehe mit Pauline Mellows (1921–1967). Als Heir apparent seines Vaters führte er ab 1990 den Höflichkeitstitel Viscount Woodstock. Er ist seit dem 8. Duke of Portland am 30. Juli 1990 erbte er dessen Titel eines Earl of Portland, aber nicht den Titel Duke of Portland, der damit erlosch. Bentinck war ein direkter Nachfahre von Johann Wilhelm Bentinck, 1. Earl of Portland († 1709). Mit dem Earlstitel war ein erblicher Sitz im House of Lords verbunden.
