It was renamed by the Parkdale village council in 1883 to honour the new Governor General, Henry Petty-Fitzmaurice, 5th Marquess of Lansdowne, who served between 1883 and 1888. Lansdowne Avenue begins at Queen Street West, a short distance east of the northern terminus of Jameson Avenue.
