(fn. 138) John Dudley, duke of Northumberland, lived in Chelsea occasionally while he held the manor from 1551 to 1553, (fn. 139) and his widow Jane lived there from 1554 until her death at Chelsea Place in 1555.

Catherine Parr was not impressed with how close he was to a teenaged Elizabeth I, Henry's daughter, and had her sent away due to Thomas Seymour's inappropriate behaviour with her.
