Hace 1 día · Another album first is “Jones Law Blues,” a Moten/Basie title from 1929, and it is a highlight. I couldn’t find any performances before 2019 but feel like it has been in their set longer, evolving over the years to the truly memorable arrangement on Hot Town.
Hace 3 días · When Moten died in 1935, Basie took over the band and developed it as his own. The first theme song of the Count Basie Orchestra was “Moten Blues.” This was followed for a short period of time by a slow number rendered by saxophonist Herschel Evans titled “Blue and Sentimental,” which would then replaced by “One O’Clock Jump” after its immediate success.

19 de may. de 2024 · His ensemble, Pianist Count Basie and his Cherry Blossoms, sprang out of Bennie Moten's Kansas City band. The Cherry Blossoms were subsequently transported to Chicago and then to New York City by him. His mother was a pianist and his father was a mellophone student.
