18 de may. de 2024 · The Knights Cross was worn at the neck, exactly like the Knights Cross to the Iron Cross. This is an early cross made of silver. The cross is nicely maker marked with number '1' indicating production by the company of 'Deschler & Sohn' from München, the cross is '900' silver marked. The cross comes on it's original 49cms long sized ribbon.
20 de may. de 2024 · Surgeon General William George Nicholas Manley, an Irishman, is the sole recipient of both the Victoria Cross and the Iron Cross. The VC was awarded for his actions during the Waikato-Hauhau Maori War, New Zealand on 29 April 1864, while the Iron Cross was awarded for tending the wounded during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870–71.
21 de may. de 2024 · Regarded as the top scoring ace of all time, Erich Hartmann was credited with 352 victories, flying with Nazi Germany's Luftwaffe, largely on the Eastern Front. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, with oak leaves, swords and diamonds. He survived the war, but was held as a prisoner in the Soviet Union until 1955.
