Il est connu pour son implication dans l'univers audiovisuel de Star Trek , ses romans inspirés de Sherlock Holmes et son film C'était demain ( Time After Time , 1979), dont le scénario est inspiré du roman La Machine à explorer le temps de H. G. Wells .
