Vassar College, in cooperation with the Clifden Community School, Clifden, Ireland, offers a one-semester internship program. Students interested in teacher certification, the theoretical study of education, or the study of cross-cultural education are assigned as interns in the elementary or secondary school in Clifden, Ireland where you shadow local teachers and assist with lessons.
In 1873, Dutch writer Martinus Cohen Stuart visited Vassar while touring America, and he wrote at length about the college in his Six Months in America (1875). Toured the Vassar College Campus which included the Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, the Chapel, and the Thompson Memorial Library. The massive stained-glass window that dominates the library’s interior space depicts Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia, the first woman to receive a doctorate in 1678 from the University of Padua in Italy.
