The book's publication was a wish that seemed to end with Lennon's assassination in 1980 and the theft of the manuscript from the Lennons' home in 1982.

  2. Skywriting was finally published in 1986, and it displays all of Lennon's extraordinary creativity and inventiveness with language. It includes Lennon's only piece of autobiography, 'The Ballad of John and Yoko' as well as short works of fiction, accounts of falling in love, marriage, the break-up of the Beatles and life in America.

  3. "Skywriting by Word of Mouth" was written during Lennon's 'retirement' (during the latter 1970's), and wasn't published until 1986. It's a little over 200 pages in length, and in addition to the various stories it offers an autobiographical sketch - "The Ballad of John and Yoko" (which explores aspects of Lennon's life, his family, and the break-up of the Beatles).
