I have yet to read a Philip Pullman book that I didn't love. "Count Karlstein" is an excellent fairy tale set in a small village in the Swiss mountains in the year 1816. Hildi, a servant at the castle of the local gentry, a perfect villain named Count Karlstein, loves her two charges, the count's English nieces, Miss Charlotte & Miss Lucy.
