1918 ( Duchy of Anhalt) The House of Ascania ( German: Askanier) was a dynasty of German rulers. It is also known as the House of Anhalt, which refers to its longest-held possession, Anhalt. [1] The Ascanians are named after Ascania (or Ascaria) Castle, known as Schloss Askanien in German, which was located near and named after Aschersleben.

Joachim Ernst, Duke of Anhalt (11 January 1901-18 February 1947) was the last ruler of the Duchy of Anhalt. Biography He was born in Dessau the son of Duke Eduard of Anhalt (1861-1918) and Princess Luise of Saxe-Altenburg (1873-1953), the daughter of Prince Moritz of Saxe-Altenburg .
Duke Joachim Ernst was married twice, firstly to the daughter of an opera singer, Elisabeth Strickrodt (1903–1971) in 1927, but they were divorced in 1929. He married secondly Editha Marwitz von Stephani (1905–1986) at Ballenstedt Castle in 1929.

Prince Aribert Joseph Alexander of Anhalt (18 June 1866 - 24 December 1933) was regent of Anhalt from September to November 1918 on behalf of his underage nephew, Duke Joachim Ernst. As regent, following the German revolution , he abdicated in the name of his nephew on 12 November 1918, thus ending the rule of the House of Ascania in Anhalt .
