Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679), fue un filósofo y teórico político inglés, graduado en la Universidad de Oxford, que se destacó por su erudición científica y su formación humanística. Hijo de un vicario que abandonó a su familia, fue criado por un tío, que se ocupó de su formación.
