Telly Savalas was an American actor and singer, best known for his role as Detective Kojak in the CBS television series Kojak (1973–1978). He also starred in the films The Dirty Dozen (1967), Kelly's Heroes (1970), and Escape to Athena (1979). Savalas was born in Garden City, Long Island, New York, the son of Greek immigrants.
