AZZEDINE ALAÏA was also an Arab and an eminent figure of the Arabian diaspora.In the year leading up to his death, Vogue Arabia’s Features Director, Caterina Minthe, spent several days at 7 rue de Moussy, the Paris address where Alaïa lived and worked, observing the comings and goings of some of those closest to him.
Regarded as the last contemporary French fashion designer capable of consistently measuring up to the great masters of fashion history, Azzedine Alaïa was also an exceptional collector. Few of his predecessors and contemporaries developed such a passion for fashion history as he did, which led him to establish the largest private collection of clothing and costumes.

29 de sept. de 2023 · Two years ago, the Cristobal Balenciaga Museum in Spain put on an exhibition, “Alaïa and Balenciaga: Sculptors of Shape,” of some 100 works drawn from the collection of Azzedine Alaïa. Alaïa had died in 2017, after taking a bad fall in his fashion house in the Marais section of Paris, the same building where he also lived.
