Alexander Gluck – père du compositeur – quitte sa région d’origine et s’établit provisoirement en 1711 dans un petit village appelé Erasbach, entre les villes de Nuremberg et Ratisbonne. C’est là qu’il se marie en 1712, et que naît le 2 juillet 1714 Christoph Willibald Gluck.
Christoph Willibald Gluck hatte sich der Musik zugewandt, sich – möglicherweise schon als Vierzehnjähriger – nach Prag begeben und immatrikulierte sich 1731 an der dortigen Universität. Seinen Lebensunterhalt bestritt er als Musiker; das Rüstzeug dafür hatte er sich offenbar in seiner Heimat Nordböhmen erworben, wo die Musik besonders gepflegt wurde.

Christoph Willibald Ritter von Gluck (født 2. juli 1714 i Erasbach ved Berching, død 15. november 1787 i Wien) var en tysk komponist. Han regnes som en av de mest betydelige operakomponister i klassisismen.
