Studio photograph of the Honourable Lieutenant Sir Julian Hedworth George Byng, later 1st Viscount Byng of Vimy. He is in full dress uniform of the 10th Royal Hussars (Prince of Waless own), full length; his busby on plinth left; and sabretache.
At the end of the war, in recognition of his outstanding leadership and service, he was created Baron. He took his title from Vimy and retained the name in 1928 when he was created Viscount. In 1921 Byng came to Canada and assumed his duties with a high respect for Canadians, gained from his intimate wartime associations.

JULIAN HEDWORTH GEORGE BYNG, 1ST VISCOUNT BYNG OF VIMY Known to friends as "Bingo", he was born to a noble family in Hertsmere, England, and educated at Eton College. Upon graduation, Byng received a commission as a militia officer and thereafter saw service in Egypt and Sudan before he enrolled in the Staff College at Camberley.
