10 de dic. de 2019 · On August 12, 1867, President Andrew Johnson suspended Sec. of War Edwin Stanton. This began a chain of events that would culminate in Johnson’s impeachment. In December of that year, responding to Congressional criticism, Johnson issued an explanation for the suspension in which he included the text of correspondence between himself and Stanton.
