20 de may. de 2022 · Alice Roosevelt was born the only daughter of Theodore Roosevelt and his first wife, Alice Hathaway Lee, who he loved desperately. Two days after giving birth on Valentine’s Day of 1884, Hathaway died of kidney failure that went undetected thanks to the pregnancy on the fourth anniversary of their engagement and the same day Teddy’s mother died.

Alice Lee Roosevelt Longworth (1884-1980) was the only daughter of Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt and Theodore Roosevelt. She was born on February 12, 1884. Her mother and paternal grandmother died two days later. Her aunt, Anna Roosevelt, raised her until her father married Edith Kermit Carow in December 1886.
He called her the “most cultivated, best-read girl I know,” but a rupture in their relationship occurred before Roosevelt left for Harvard College. Once there, he fell in love with Alice Hathaway Lee. Edith determined to be friends with both of them, even after Roosevelt married Lee in 1880. Alice died in 1884, leaving Theodore a widower.

26 de may. de 2023 · The rare old point lace that trimmed the neckline and elbow-length sleeves of her gown was Alice’s “something old.” The lace had been used on her mother Alice Hathaway Lee’s wedding dress when she married Theodore Roosevelt; tragically, Alice Lee died at age 22, only two days after their only daughter was born.
