  6. Carl (Wilhelm) von Kupffer wurde am 14. November 1829 in Lesten bei Mitau im Kurland geboren. Nach der „Maturitäts-prüfung“ 1848 in Dorpat (heute: Tartu) – er wurde privat von seinem Vater, dem Pastor Karl Hermann Kupffer und Hauslehrern unterrichtet - studierte er in Dorpat u.a. bei Reichert und Buchheim Medizin.
