The World War II years were spent at Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, where she lodged while she worked for MI6.

Margaret and Leland also enjoyed traveling extensively after retirement. Surviving family include her husband, Leland, daughters Margaret Sims, Sharon Lardie, and Carol Krogman, and sons Jeff Rhodes and Scott Rhodes, 7 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, several brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd.
