Arthur Freed. Arthur Freed was the preeminent producer of musical films during the "Golden Age" of the MGM Musical. An ambitious man, Freed was born in Charleston, South Carolina into a musical family. He grew up in Seattle, Washington and attended the Phillips Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. It was here that he began to write poetry.
