Put it back in the picture. It can’t hurt.” More than 75 years later, the film and the song by composer Harold Arlen and lyricist Yip Harburg are cultural touchstones.
Legendary producer and lyricist, Arthur Freed, had two hugely successful Hollywood careers. With his songwriting partner, Nacio Herb Brown, Freed composed some of the most enduring songs in cinema history, including ‘The Broadway Melody’, ‘Singin’ In The Rain’, ‘Make ‘Em Laugh’, ‘Good Morning’, and ‘Pagan Love Song’, among many others.
Arthur Freed. Arthur Freed was the preeminent producer of musical films during the "Golden Age" of the MGM Musical. An ambitious man, Freed was born in Charleston, South Carolina into a musical family. He grew up in Seattle, Washington and attended the Phillips Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. It was here that he began to write poetry.
