July 1879 – January 31, 1974 ), also known as Samuel Goldfish, was an American film producer. He was most well known for being the founding contributor and executive of several motion picture studios in Hollywood .
Samuel Goldwyn werd in 1879 in Warschau geboren als Schmuel Gelbfisz. Op jonge leeftijd trok hij te voet en zonder geld naar Engeland. Daar verbleef hij een tijdje in Birmingham, waar familie van hem woonde. Hij vertaalde zijn naam toen naar het Engels en ging voortaan door het leven als Samuel Goldfish. In 1898 verhuisde hij naar Canada.

Intrigued with the company's name, Goldfish had his name legally changed to "Samuel Goldwyn ".
