Princess Magdalena Augusta of Anhalt-Zerbst. Signature. Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (30 November [ O.S. 19 November] 1719 – 8 February 1772) [1] was Princess of Wales by marriage to Frederick, Prince of Wales, eldest son and heir apparent of King George II. She never became queen consort, as Frederick predeceased his father in 1751.
Family. Louise was the fourth and youngest child of Prince John August of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and his wife Countess Louise Reuss of Schleiz.. Marriage and issue. Louise married Frederick Francis, Hereditary Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, eldest child and only son of Duke Ludwig of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and his wife Princess Charlotte Sophie of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, on 1 June 1775 in Gotha.
The duchies were later merged into Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. Life[edit] He was the eldest son of Prince Louis Frederick I of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt and his wife Anna Sophie of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. He had three brothers, along with nine sisters, but in 1713 primogeniture was introduced in the principalities of Schwarzburg, and therefore he became the sole ruling Prince of Rudolstadt in 1718.
