Gino Severini (7 April 1883 – 26 February 1966), was an Italian painter. He was a founding member of the Futurist movement. As a young man, he was introduced to Impressionism. This is a type of painting that was popular in the late 1800s. In the early 1900s, he became interested in Cubism.
Severini stated in an artist's questionnaire issued by the Museum of Modern Art that he first sold the painting to Léonce Rosenberg, Paris, who subsequently sold it to Richard Wyndham (Collection files, Department of Painting and Sculpture, The Museum of Modern Art, New York).
